Brothers for Life mourns Civil Society Leader – Bob Phato

Brothers for Life is distraught about the passing of one of the men who had dedicated their lives to moral regeneration of the country by adding their voices in the fight against gender-based violence and encouraging other men to take responsibility for their own health.

Bob Phato served the nation in various capacities as an agent for change. He was one of the first leaders of the civil society who endorsed the Brothers for Life campaign in its formative days.

His involvement in the Brothers for Life campaign included mobilising men to Yenzakahle - to take responsibility for their own health, to test for HIV and he served as an ambassador for positive male norms through reducing gender-based violence.

Thanks to his efforts and the work of other South African men from all walks of life, we now have millions of men who are proud to be Brothers for Life and are striving to do the right thing.
Centre for Communications Impact Programme Manager Mogale Mashiapata, says that Bob was one of the rarest and greatest leader of civil society South Africa has ever produced. He did so much with nothing at most times. Travelling the length and breadth of this country in the quest to make a difference in the lives of fellow countrymen

His love for people and his willingness to work towards the health and well-being of fellow men was one of the many things that he gave to South Africa. Phato will be remembered for his outstanding leadership qualities and in particular for mobilising support for the Brothers for Life campaign which in turn touched many lives with messages relating to the health and well-being of men in SA . Brothers for Life sends its heartfelt condolences to the Phato family, the South African Civil Society Organisations he served, friends and comrades during this difficult time.
