Living Happilywith HIV as discordant couple

Together in sickness and love

Oziel and Mpume Mdletshe are a happily married, sero-discordant couple from KwaZulu-Natal. Sero-discordant means that they have different HIV statuses: Mpume is HIV-, and Oziel is HIV+.

To many this may seem like an impossible obstacle to overcome, but this beautiful couple have found a way to make it work.

"The first thing in your relationship is the love you have for each other," says Mpume. She explains that honesty and a willingness to understand each other's perspectives is what makes their marriage work. By asking questions and learning together, they have empowered themselves to make healthy choices about safer sex.
