Thomas Mashego

Thomas Mashego (41) is a living testimony that ARV treatment is a life saver. This 41 year-old father of two first tested for HIV in 2010 and the result was negative' Three years later he felt that he wasn't too well but ignored it for a while. His rapid weight loss didn't make things easier for him. When he dropped from size 40 to 28 in three months he knew that his health wasn't good at all. He had no choice but to visit the local clinic in his kasi of Kabokweni outside Nelspruit where he tested positive for HIV. He is now back in the construction sector where he works as a bricklayer. Brothers for Life is a social and well-being movement aimed at mobilising men to take responsibility for their own health. We hope to achieve this by promoting positive male norms and encourage men to test for HIV and undergo Medical Male Circumcision (MMC), actively take a stand against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in their communities.
